What are you looking for in a church?

Is there more to church than buildings, fancy lighting, and music? Is it just a place to go on sundays? What are your motivations to get there? Is there something specific you would like to see happen in church? If there were one main thing you would like to find in a church, what would it be?

Please no negative talk about church. I am just trying to gather some information. I would love to hear from you.

“The perfect church service would be one that we were almost unaware of. Our attention would have been on God.”    C.S. Lewis

Experiencing the glorious presence of the living Christ, and the wonderful love and grace of God the Father, through the working of the Holy Spirit!

This is a powerful statement! I believe that for those who already form part of the body of Christ, this should be in the forefront as they prepare themselves to go. Thanks for the comment!

Community. A mix of people at all stages of their lives. Some Christian, some not. All there for different reasons. All with something to share and to offer to the others, no matter how broken they are. A place that is welcoming and open to all no matter what. A place where love is everything. Where those of us who know and enjoy God’s love can share it with those who don’t yet. Who see ourselves as church wherever we go and whoever we interract with.

Your first word sums it up nicely! Community is so important, this is what Jesus desired and taught his disciples as he sat to eat with what the Pharisees considered sinners. Very good insight!

This is great thing to think about. To have a sense of community is so important. a place where you can feel God’s inconditional love by the sisters and brothers who surround you. A place where the Word of God is preached with such profoundness that you leave church wanting more. A place where the worship and music is so annointed that you feel the Presence of God palpitating in the air as you breathe in and out.. A place where the sinner is reached out to in love NO MATTER where he or she came from. A place of refuge for the lost. Wow…thanks Jonathan.

I think your quote explains it perfectly. I want to be so focused on God and have him bless the “fancy building” with his prescence. So much so that you have no regards for anything or anyone else in the place. I’m not saying community is a bad thing. I do believe it’s great to be surrounded by individuals who long and desire to be close to God as well, but our main focus and priority should be to feel him and to feed our spirit.

P.S. I asked my best friend after reading this blog, and she INSTANTLY responded, “The feeling.” I asked, “The feeling of what?” She replied, “Of being closer to God.”

    Great Topic. Be blessed! (:
